Is it possible to convert a 56 to IRS, instead of a swing axle?

Yes you can convert to IRS http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1561
conversion pivot plates welding and all parts from an IRS car including transmission are needed.
 We can set you up with all the parts.
