This thing followed me home yesterday. I'm told it's from the 60s. I thought the front end was different so had to have it. Also the windshield and part of the rollbar are removable. Any thoughts appreciated.

It looks like it's got a kind-of wierd A-Arm front end setup ? (as in "non-conformist wierd" rather than "completely wrong wierd") with heim jointed centre mount vertical A's out front, with the locating rod running back and heim jointed to a cross tube at the end of the perforated floor - can't say I've seen anything like it before Huh

Doesn't look like you'd get much wheel travel out of the front, judging by the size/location of those springs and the gaps between the coils - I assume they're coilovers as I can't see any other form of shock absorber? But, I suspect if you cut the top mounts out, and added some loops above the frame, you could easily put some bigger units in there which would give far more travel.

.... but, I'll tell you what, it's given me some ideas - if I could get rid of the front beam on mine and fabricate something along those lines - I reckon I could get better wheel travel, without increasing the width excessively by running larger front arms? Mmmm... something to think about.

Don't know how it drives Vin. It's been sitting for at least 15 years. Has a motor in it I been fartin around with to see if its worth saving or needs to be torn down now.

The story for what it's worth is that this was an early prototype that ran BAHA way back, but who knows.

Interestingly the steering rack is a volkwagon unit. Maybe if I post a close up with a part # B Man can tell me what it's off of. It's still real tight.

I agree Kimbo not much travel to be had there. So I think I'll put the 2175 from the off road buggy in it, put it on the road and hunt jap cars with fart mufflers. They mess with me in the El Camino all the time and I ignore them. Did think about your idea too though. With the loops.

Definately Wink post up the closeups spare Smiley ,what I need to see are any part #'s & symbols you can find on the R&P itself & maybe on the wide shoulders of the boots @ the inboard ends of 'em Wink ,that should allow me to show you how to extrapolate a more accurate timeline of it's original construction by ID'ing which W/C based model it came from,or Huh ,could even be Porsche based because back then they still used a VW lollypop symbol but with a longer Porsche style part # cast onto 'em:

When cleaning it up document & post up any casting #'s you find on any part you handle along with the engine & tranny #'s,that'll create a personal "owner's manual" Wink .

That's interesting camino. To bad it's been hacked a little.

B M I'll definately post some close ups soon. Concrete slab to do today. Looks a lot like 70 bug convertable rack pictured in one of your links. frame looks very close to the Funco in the top right pic of first link in your reply except the front suspention looks a little more advanced (in the picture). The top comes off just like that and a bar bolts in to support the steering shaft. Even the seats and wheels/tires which I previously traded for look the same.

As a side note the PO grafted in the IRS and nerf bars which has me concerned about the extreme angle of the axels. If I recall right about 19 deg. is the limit. With SA suspention as it was orig. perhaps it's older than thought.

Thanks for the responce guys. I'll have a beer in your honor this afternoon, maybe 10.

OK BM here's what I got on the rack. Driver side boot # is 171419831 CLO  -  pass. side boot # is 171419832 CLO, on the box itself there's an H @ top, a 12 lower to the right, a ? below the H, also there's a Germany above WWO with a 2 to the right. Here's some pics - best I can do up close. Thanks in advance for any input/help.
