Like most of us, I'm on a budget, with more things to fix than I have money for.

I'm building a fenderless hotrod out of a 66' Beetle, and although the last owner claims the engine runs, it looks like hell and probably runs the same.

What I want is decent performance and great reliability. I'm not going to race the car, but I'd like to be able to merge on the freeway effortlessly, and drive all day on the freeway if i want, at reasonable speeds. I don't think I can afford a rebuild.

My budget? Maybe a bit less than the cost of a rebuild, but I'm somewhat flexible. (I can eat dog food one month if needed I guess)

Thanks!

Brian

Being on a budget I would have someone with experience take a look at your current engine. The simplest way to check the condition is to first try to spin it by hand. If it does, push and pull on the crank pulley. If it goes in and out alot the engine probably needs a rebuild.

bearings, alignbore, cylinders and rings, if parts are good.  pretty cheap, may not *need* an alignbore either.

Thanks. I'm glad to get an opinion from the guys I trust. Chrico built an engine for one of my Bajas years ago, and I'd like to keep my business with you.

I would, however, like to go a lot bigger, to 1915CC if possible.

Right now you have my front beam for a rebuild and disc brake kit, when thats done, I think I'll give you my engine to work your magic.

Chirco built me a 1641 back in '86 and it rocked. If my psycho EX fiancee (  Evil ) I had back then didn't wreck my ride, it would probably still be running!!

i dont work for Joe, the returns manager was a joke couple years ago.
they will set you up right.
but yeah, if your looking for bigger, then 1915 is the way to go, the parts and machining are the same price.
