Hey Bajafun, I saw somewhere in the forums that I could check my engine number on your site and figure out what year it is. I went there, registered, logged in, but I guess Im too dumb to find the right link.

Actually I didnt.  I checked every link on Baja's site and everyother one I could find.  Whats throwing me is the R.  I forgot the A in the first post, but the number is AR143996.  I found AH, AJ, and Aabout everything but R.  Any ideas?

Any chance that "AR" is actually "AK" ?

Nope, I thought it might be an H, or a K, but I scrubbed it clean and it's definitely an R.  Weird!  I did see on one of the links a reference to R being high compression and H being low compression, but i couldnt find it again when I wanted to take a closer look.  Guess it doesnt matter that much, just one of those things,..once you start looking, you want to find the answer!!

I don't see an AR, maybe AB?

After Market Cases
Code       Year     Engine       Remarks
F1                          13/1600
F2                          13/1600
DO                                         40-HP part when last digit is "X"
D1                                         Some times a 40-HP part
AB            66-79      1600         Built since '73 in Mexico, Brazil and Germany
AK            67-74      15/1600
AM                         1600
AS                                         sometimes listed as a Super Beetle original case '73 and on

You guys must all think Im F.O.S. (The f and the o are "full" and "of"  Shocked  Shocked)  But I dont blame you, I cant find R anywhere either.  After I get it put back together I will run it up and show Joe, just so he can back me up on it, thanks for checking though

I have seen these numbers before, But I have no idea where and when they were made. I could never find any information on them.
