I'm wondering if anyone knows how much horsepower/torque an autostick transaxel can handle? I want to go faster in the bug but i dint quite want to abandon the autostick.  So any knowlage is helpful.

My uncles nieghbor in Fla. has a convertible sedan with a basically stock 1776 single carb auto stick.It runs great with alot more torque than it had with a stock 1600cc.

Hiya, The trouble with an autostick is that 1st gear is the same ratio as 2nd gear in a standard 4 speed. Like taking off in 2nd gear all the time , so additional power would be nice. Also FYI, the autostick starter is .7 hp and the stick is .5 hp. Well worth to use an autostick starter on any bigger engine, even a stick. Ol' John Cool

the bushing in the tranny that the tip of the armature on the starter goes into, when that bushing wears out it puts more strain on the starter and wears it out sooner. so we run the auto-stick starter because it is a heavier duty and it doesn't have the end that goes into the bushing.  we haven't had any problems with these starters  Grin..   happy motoring, casey  Cool
