Okay, I promised Don I would document the installation of Chirco's 6-point cage in my 74 Baja.  It has a stock interior, and the goal is to keep it as stock as possible (seats, headliner, seatbelts, etc).  I started by removing the seats and front seatbelts.

Next, I put the middle hoop in, followed by the front hoop with the top arms.

I had to squeeze the legs in up front to get them inside the heater channels and flat on the pan.

At this point, with the hoops connected together, and the sleeves over the joint, you can see that the middle hoop is not plumb.

With that configuration, the rear legs are way too long.  But, if I disconnect the front arms and bring the middle hoop closer to plump, the rear legs fit.

Now at this point the middle hoop is still not plumb, so it looks like I need to take about 1 inch off the rear legs, and about 2 inches of the arms between the front and middle hoop.

I used a plumber's pipe cutter, makes REALLY nice cuts, clean, straight, no burrs, etc.  The cutter goes through this mild steel with no problems.  Oh yeah, and while I was at it, I ground all the sharp corners off the mounting plates, so in case of a rollover the pointed corners won't tear through the pan.

So, after a little tweaking and persuasion, the cage is in, and it is SNUG!  It all fits, but the base plates for the middle hoop are about 3/4 inch off the floor.  Now, it's all fit together at this point, but not bolted, so I think I am gonna pull it back out, and see if I can bend the arms that connect the front and middle hoops down just a bit, to see if I can get those middle plates flat on the floor.

They swing down, but won't swing to the side.  The vent wings also will open.  The only functionality I lost was the ability to roll down the windows.  And the stock seats fit fine, including the back.  It's all bolted in, tomorrow I am going over the to fab shop to see about getting some hoops bent for the back legs so I have something to mount shocks to.  The I get to pull it all out and paint it.

Count down 12 days till I am back in WA.

Cage looks good.  When I get back we'll get those shock mount tubes in and body lift on.

See ya soon.

Billy,

I'm counting on it!!  We gotta figure out where the upper mount is going to land, so I can order my shocks.  I know Project Baja went with the 10-inch travel, but I'm thinking that with a 3-inch lift I'm gonna go with 14's.  Guess we'll figure that out once the lift kit is on  and we know where the mounts are going to be.
