Hi, here's some Pics of our '73 Baja bug Jeeps And Buggies has been working on this spring. We are having difficulty deciding just how to proceed with mounting the headlights and what type of lighting to use. (Halogen, LED, etc.)
Any advice or ideas are appreciated! Check out our Jeeps And Buggies facebook page. Thanks.

Was that the one who had a bulldog and a bucket ??

Nice ride, love the paint job.

My perspective on lights, FWIW, would be dependent on the overall "look" you're trying to achieve, and/or the intended use. Personally I'd go for HID's hi/lows in the normal front fender positions, but mounted to the front beam, rather than the fibreglass, and then 4 KC's up at the roof line above the visor - kinda traditional, kinda "yesterday", yes, I know, but then why mess with tradition.

Thanks for the input Kimbo,   Beer I think we are going to definitely mount to the beam with cutouts. I will repost more pics when I can. And yes, I am the Man From Nantucket. headbang

We are having some electrical/wiring problems with the '73. Banghead Interestingly, I can't seem to find any photos or video detailing the wiring from the back of the speedo cluster.
We have hazards, but no turn signals. Possible flasher relay? Dontknow  Huh

You can try another flasher relay, but one thing I had trouble with in my '71 is that the power for the turn signals goes through the emergency flasher switch. When you pull the emergency flasher switch the turn signal circuit is broken. If not pressed in all the way, or if the contacts are dirty the turn signals don't work. Every once in a while I have to jiggle my emergency flasher switch to get turn signals on after using the 4 ways.

Hi JP Smiley ,
Probably not the relay http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=899&osCsid=09bl85uv10s74kjda344r84oi2 itself since the flashers work, what it sounds like to me is the turn signal switch.
Here's a basic wiring diagram from a 72(almost identical)

and the key from a 73

both from http://www.vintagebus.com/wiring/index.html  Cool Wink .

The 73 & later diagrams are a lot Banghead harder to read Sad ,so here's the full diagnostics link to both the TS switch & other related problem areas associated with them:
http://www.vw-resource.com/vw-resource.com_non_ssl/search.php?zoom_query=turn+signals&zoom_per_page=10&zoom_and=1&zoom_sort=0  Cool Wink .

Like Rick Smiley alluded to,just use a multimeter or test light to verify solid power & ground paths between components then the actual problem will become self-evident Wink .
