I removed the body on my 65 Beetle that I owned for 10 years in the UK. It is the only way to repair the sills properly (without welding body to floor pan) but most people go for the angled box section quick fix to cover up the mess, welding body to floor pan and committing the car to an early grave.
The job is daunting but worthwhile if you plan to keep the car/sell the car and have a clean conscience!
One word of advice that I learnt by not doing. Assuming you plan to manipulate the body on its side to weld in the new sills, a temporary brace should be welded between the door posts to keep the sides of the car at the correct distance apart. Otherwise you will have trouble lining up the captive bolt holes in the new sills with the holes in the floor pan

In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has widely been regarded as a bad move.
