One of the many little things wrong with my car is the passenger side vent window. It appears that all the hardware is present but whatever holds the glass into the frame is not doing its job. When you open the vent window, the glass falls out. Every time I get somebody in the car I have to stop them from opening the vent window. I assume there is an adhesive of some sort to hold the glass in place. I don't want to butcher things so what is used here? I mean i could buy some black RTV and go for it, but what is used by people that know what they are doing?

Just clean the vent frame good, then be sure the black seal is in good shape. I use 3M black weather strip adhesive and run a thin bead in the frame, the just slide the vent glass in place and wipe off any excess adhesive with acetone. close the vent wing and allow to dry. Your done. Thanks for the post Joe Chirco

Thanks Joe! I will take care of this as soon as I get my sons mustang out of the shop, or when the rain finally stops

Dayo Rick Smiley ,
P# 221-845-295-A,still kinda findable new http://www.bus-boys.com/bbrbr68.htm from http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=221-845-295-a&aq=f&oq=&aqi= .
It's a wide rubber strip with a grippy outer texture like a cat's tongue when new,an interference fit which gets razorblade trimmed down after the glass is rubber-malleted into place in the frame, after a while it just dries & flattens out loosing it's gripping ability.
I'd go with Joe's Smiley solution as long as it doesn't shred up on you "then be sure the black seal is in good shape.",the trick is to use the sealant uber sparingingly but still effectively so as to make it look like it never happened Wink .

Accch!,just remembered another little trick that was shown to me by a bud a long time ago,a locally obtained bicycle or auto tire innertube, new outta the box Wink :
Wash it with a mild dish soap to remove the talcum powder(don't use a solvent which starts & quickens the rubber drying out process Wink ).
Cut the valve out & split the remainder down the whole length left over with a box knife(like slittin' open a snake Wink ).
Wrap it around the curve of the vent glass to determine the length needed +~1/4",chop that length off & split that down the center = 2 new vent glass gaskets Wink .
What's left over of the innertube can be sliced & diced into little gaskets & shims for tubing held by clamps-mounting points for accessories-etc... as an additional sound deadener and crack preventer wherever critical metal to metal measurements aren't required Wink .

I got the 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive in Walmart automotive section, $2.89. The acetone at Walmart in the nail polish aisle $1.00.
It took only a few minutes, I let it cure overnight and now it is securely attached.

Thanks Joe and Buggyman.
