Looks like you need a remote starter. Fire it up from the kitchen and enjoy a cup of coffee or two while she warms up. (you do have heater boxes don't you?)

I do, and they work very well.  The only problem I've found under those conditions is that the rear cowl fills with snow, and then the fan seems to pull in exhaust, cuz running the heaters kind of fumigates us.  I just assume it's cuz the air flow gets disturbed and the exhaust doesn't blow away properly.  But she fires right up every time!  It's fun to drive when you have a foot of snow in the street, but the front end has almost no traction whatsoever.  Just a little squirrely!!   Grin

I used to have a '73 thinng when I lived in the northeast. Several times up in Maine I would get in somebody elses tracks before the roads were plowed and I had to go where they went. It would not turn out of the tracks, just pushed the front end unless I slowed down. Once, in about 6" of especially sticky snow, I had to back up to get out of the tracks.

Here's a few pics of my new project.  First time working a VW here.  Before and a within a month ago.......

Still working body and the back end.

When I got her she had the usual stuff (so I'm finding out.)  Battery tray gone and the floor pan behind the pass seat was junk.  I replaced the whole back section, POR-15'd the floor, new interior (except dash pad-that's coming), fixed all the cracked and broken fiberglass, sand blasted and painted the rims, all new brakes, new electrical from fuse box forward, and new lights (both front and rear) not to mention the fun of undercoating the pan.

It's been quite the adventure so far.  I'm seriously looking forward to painting and driving.  Not to many Baja's around here.  Some bugs, and a really nice Thing I looked at today, but no Baja's.

Thank you for your service and I hope Texas is treating you good. Keep us posted of the progress.

I used to work the rock quarries outside the base up there. You guys loved to scare the crap out of me by flying just over the tree line in the Black Hawks, like I was a target. Huh, I probably was. They would get so close I could see the crew laughing at me.

Welcome to the forum.
