Here we installing our new 5 Lug Rear disc brake kit. Again we wanted to see how well they work and see if there was going to be any challenges installing them. John Bol again gave me a hand. | | I'm very excited that I will be able to run 5 lug disc brakes on the rear of this car. I had looked at other 5 lug kits that all all billet aluminum and they are awsome set ups. They just cost much more than I wanted to spend. This kit for $299.99 was right up my alley and is going to make the tires stick ou farther. Now were talking! |
| | The foot print messuered 67 1/2", the rotors are 1"wider than stock drums, but must have more of an inset as we found out later. |
| | | Ok time to start disassembling. Project Baja had stock rear type 3 drum brake that the drums were drilled and had 14mm press in studs and Porshe style lug nuts hold on the Centerline wheels. |
| | | The type 3 rear brake system worked very well and allowed us to run a 5 lug drum an an IRS car, that you know came with 4 lug drums. The type 3 set up also had much wider brake shoes.
|
| This kit is designed for off-road and has a heavy duty caliper bracket. I took this photo to show the differance between the two brackets.
 | With the rear arms boxed the only way we were able to install the caliper was straight up. I would of preffered it to be facing torward the rear of the car. But our consenus was it should work fine and not get in the way.. |
| | | The calipar bracket fit well and has not needed any clearancing.
|
| | John then installed the a new seal and then put the rotor on.. |
| | We have our first modification, but it is a very easy one. The caliper is to close to the rear part of the rotor.. |
