Finally we can start putting on some shiny parts. We are also going to put on the Dog house oil cooler.

The stock oil cooler on this engine stood straight up off the case and went up into the fan shroud. We are converting the oil cooler to what was used in 1971 and latter engines. The dog house oil cooler and adaptor makes the oil cooler sit behind the fan shroud and does not prevent air flow from getting to the 3rd and 4th cylinders.

It is always a good idea to replace the old oil seals if you have to remove your oil cooler. From the photo on the left you can see how the oil cooler is lifted and offset by the adaptor from stock 1970 and earlier.

We used Ny-lock nuts on all of the studs. Our dog house cooler is now mounted.

The chrome cylinder tins we used are designed for Baja Bugs and dune buggies that do not have all the surrounding tins that a stock car has. These tins do not have the lip around the bottom and just go straight down. The alternator stand is next, there are 2 gaskets and an oil stand baffle that need to go into place first.

A small amount of ultra gray Permatex is used on the paper gaskets.

Then the alternator stand is set on the studs and bolted on.

Now we need to attach our cooling fan to the alternator and chrome alternator backing plate by using a fan hub kit. This a 36mm nut, spacer and 5 washers that space it away from the backing plate. The 36mm nut requires torqueing to 43 lbs.

Next we placed the fan shroud on just to make sure we had a good fit. We took the shroud off and screwed on the alternator backing plate to the shroud with our chrome screws.

The shroud with the alternator attached is lowered in place and screwed in on the sides and the strap that goes around the alternator stand was tightened. An oil filler extension was screwed in to the stand.

The oil filled billet cap was next.
